Uncle Jack Charles is a respected aboriginal elder, a Bunerong, Boon Wurrung, Yorta Yorta, Palawa, Wurundjeri, Tungerong man, and an internationally acclaimed actor,  mentor and activist.

This inspirational, Indigenous gay man has made profound and lasting change in legislation and public awareness on aboriginality, criminality, and social justice in Australia.

This sculpture was first conceived of by Swell Sculpture festival in collaboration with Leonie and was later shown at  Woodford Folk Festival where Uncle Jack and Leonie first met.

The original version of this piece was 23cm tall and was hand sculpted in clay from life. This is an enlargement of that original made by Leonie, funded by Our Community House.
